Commercial Whiting can be used as a mild abrasive in cleaning and scouring powders for porcelain enamel, ceramic tile and glass. It can be used both as an extender in paint pigments as well as an additive to paint in order to thicken the paint for increased coverage and improved "hiding" power.
Commercial whiting is used by stained glass artists for cleaning the glass after soldering.
Commercial whiting is used to make putty for glazing with the addition of raw linseed oil. See below.
