Which Type of Weatherstripping Should I Use?
Which weatherstripping you should use depends on what you are using the weatherstripping on (door, wooden casement window, double hung window, metal casement window, or other type of window), the size of your gaps between the frame and door or window, if you already have weatherstrip installed that you want to emulate, and your comfort with woodworking.
To determine the size of your gaps between your door frame and window, find a stack of playing cards and a ruler. Insert as many playing cards as you can into the gap between your door or window and its frame. Using the ruler, measure the thickness of the stack of cards that you were able to fit in the gap. This is the size of your gap. The size of your gap many vary in different spots around your door or window, so it is recommended that you try measuring in multiple places.
